Kalen was performing at open mic. Mike was admiring from afar. Mike asked Hannah if he could go up and play with Kalen. Hannah shrugged and wasn't sure. Mike went for it. The rest is history.

FreeWill plays quiet instruments loudly. Kalen's acoustic guitar is setup with a pedal board and the music he creates will make you take a second look.  Mike plays a cajon, but don't be fooled - he is not your average cajon player! Mike has all sorts of accessories for his cajon (and his attire!) and together, this duo sounds like a full band.

Kalen lived in Maui from the age of 10-26. As a teenager and in his early twenties, he played at local joints like Hardrock Cafe. Kalen moved to Maine in 2019 and met his wife, and now Band Manager, Hannah. They live in Center Barnstead with their dog Kona and are expecting their first baby in March 2025. When not playing music, Kalen can be found found flying airplanes as a Private Pilot, hiking in the mountains with his wife and spending time with his family by a campfire.

Mike was raised in Pittsfield, NH and now lives there with his wife Christine, their cat Larry and a whole mess of wild animals in their backyard. Mike grew up in a musical family and his parents were in a band together for many years. Music has always been part of Mike's life and you'll likely see him sitting in with other local musicians and bands. On the rare occasion that Mike isn't playing cajon, he can be found playing one of his many pinball machines, jamming out to Pearl Jam or watching any of the New England sports teams.

FreeWill loves playing at local open mic nights, taprooms and backyard barbecues! They are always looking to play at new places and would love to be considered for your next event!
